Care-Building and Kindergarden in Dörenhagen
Architectural competition, 2nd prize

The design suggests three interconnected structures for accommodating the different functions: one for the kindergarten in the south, one for the care building in the north, and one for the cafeteria and kitchen in the middle. In this way, the individual functions can be read from the outside and make orientation easier.

Like outstretched arms, the facility extends from north to south over the site and welcomes the children and young people coming from the north-east and south-west with this welcoming gesture. The building is accessed in the east, the kitchen is served from the west. Thus overlapping traffic flows and potential risks for the children are avoided.

Kindergarten and care building have two separate entrances. From the foyers there is an exit to the associated outdoor play grounds as well as a direct connection to the cafeteria. The interior corridors as well as the toilets and sanitary rooms are provided with natural light through circular skylights in different sizes.

The building is to be constructed in wood. In addition to the ecological advantages of this material, it can be used to generate indoor atmospheres that are ideally tailored to children and young people. In addition, the wooden facade supports the careful integration of the building into its largely natural surroundings.
